To coincide with their return to Glastonbury Festival, The Wurzels have gone back into the studio to record an album of indie-themed cover versions.

Entitled A Load More Bullocks, the album sees the scrumpy-and-western band put their west country stamp on hits including Pulp's Common People.

Other songs "Wurzelised" include Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs, The Stranglers' Golden Brown and Nickelback's Rockstar.

After refusing to play the festival in 2007, the band last played in 2008.

The band rejected the festival's offer to perform three years ago as they did not like the stage they were set to play on. This year they are returning to the Avalon Stage.

Singer Pete Budd said: "The Wurzels are the only band consistently making fun songs.

"There used to be songs at the top of the charts like Right Said Fred, Ernie, Have you got a Light, Funky Moped; there was The Barron Knights, Rolf Harris and even us with Combine Harvester, we all had big records and number one hits.

"Everybody loved them songs because they were fun.

"Musicians are all so serious these days, they seem to be concerned that having some fun and making people smile might be bad for their image, but it's also bad for listeners if the fun element of songs is gone forever."
